Before you pay: how to vet a doll shop

Most trouble in this hobby happens before the doll ships. A shop takes the order, goes quiet, and the tracking number never arrives. The checks below take about ten minutes and catch most of it.

Start with the maker's own dealer list

Most factories publish the shops they authorize, and it takes a minute to check. If a store claims a brand but is not on that list, treat it as a question worth asking before you send money. Our section pages note which makers each shop carries, which is usually the fastest cross-check.

Ask for photos of your doll, not the catalogue

Good sellers send quality-control photos of the actual unit before it ships. If a shop will not do that, ask why. Stock renders and factory clips are not the same thing as the doll you paid for.

Pay in a way you can reverse

Card or PayPal, with buyer protection intact. A bank transfer to a personal account is the strongest warning sign in this industry, and it is the one people most often talk themselves past.

Search the shop name on the forums

The Doll Forum vendor sections and the larger communities keep years of threads. One unhappy post is noise. A pattern of unanswered emails is a signal. Search the domain, not the brand name.

Work out what arrives at your door

Duty, VAT and clearance fees are the most common surprise. Stores inside the EU often quote prices with VAT handled; shipments from outside usually are not. Ask before ordering, and get the answer in writing.

TPE or silicone, realistically

Silicone holds detail better and lasts longer, and costs roughly 40 to 60 percent more. TPE is softer to the touch but picks up stains from dark clothing and needs powdering. Most first buyers overthink this part.

What a normal price looks like

Full-size dolls generally run from about 1,200 to 3,500 US dollars depending on material and size. Head-only and torso pieces sit well below that. A full-size branded doll at 400 dollars is not a bargain, it is a different product or no product at all.

These are checks, not guarantees. We have no commercial relationship with any shop and we do not handle orders or refunds. If something goes wrong, keep your messages and payment records, go to your payment provider first, then the brand.
